Jack Moody, Director of Water Resources of the SHG Phoenix Office, accompanied the Arizona State University Chapter of Engineers Without Borders on an assessment trip to Pune, India. Jack has been a professional mentor to EWB-ASU for over six years, helping to improve access to water for villages in Kenya and India. The EWB-ASU team gathered site data and meet with the residents of the villages of Varoti Khurd and Gahini who currently use a bucket on a rope to collect the water from 40 feet down in the well and carry it back to the village. The proposed projects are to provide a submersible pumps in the wells and pipe the water to tanks within the villages. The data gathered was brought back to ASU, where the students will design the pumping, piping, and tank systems.
